This summer our porch has become the home of a giant spider. We are all fascinated by it. Hogan calls it the Itsy Bitsy Spider and Troy has named it Ralph. I finally tried to identify the spider and found out that it is the
Black and Yellow Argiope and Ralph is a female. The other day we watched it trap and eat a grasshopper. Tonight we were intrigued by the brave male spider courting this frightning female. The male is probably a quarter of the size of the female. I felt so nervous watching this little guy make his way towards the center of the web, like at any moment she might wind him up in her silky threads. We all sat by the window watching the male slowly creeping closer. It was better than TV!
